A recent study published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society examined a group of patients with thyroid eye disease (TED) who had received teprotumumab treatment, an infusion involving the Horizon Therapeutics pharmaceutical known as Tepezza®. In the study, nearly half of the patients (13 out of 28) reported some sort of adverse effect on their hearing, such as full or partial hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo. The study authors suggest that Tepezza® should be considered among the ototoxic medicines that have the potential to damage the ear.
Though this was a small research population, the original clinical studies indicated that around 10% of those taking Tepezza® experienced some level of deafness, ringing in the ears, or other symptoms affecting the sense of hearing.
