Tepezza® Lawsuits

According to the growing body of research that has been conducted in recent years, the thyroid eye disease (TED) treatment known as Tepezza® could harm patients’ ability to hear. Even though their research had already indicated a strong likelihood of hearing disorders caused by the drug, Horizon Therapeutics did not warn doctors or patients about the significant possibility that Tepezza® would lead to hearing loss ranging from mild to severe and from temporary to permanent.

While it is the first, and currently the only, effective drug available for treating TED, it poses a marked risk to the health of those it is administered to. Horizon owed it to the public to provide all information on these potentially irreversible side effects, and this failure to do so cannot be overlooked. With a product liability suit, our trusted legal partners can assist you in recovering compensation for your medical expenses, lost wages, and the physical and mental anguish you’ve likely experienced as a result of taking Tepezza®.

A 2021 Study Exposed the Negative Effects of Tepezza®

A recent study published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society examined a group of patients with thyroid eye disease (TED) who had received teprotumumab treatment, an infusion involving the Horizon Therapeutics pharmaceutical known as Tepezza®. In the study, nearly half of the patients (13 out of 28) reported some sort of adverse effect on their hearing, such as full or partial hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo. The study authors suggest that Tepezza® should be considered among the ototoxic medicines that have the potential to damage the ear.

Though this was a small research population, the original clinical studies indicated that around 10% of those taking Tepezza® experienced some level of deafness, ringing in the ears, or other symptoms affecting the sense of hearing. That is a notable percentage of individuals who suffered disorders from the drug, and the manufacturer’s disregard for consumers by withholding that information is inexcusable.

We are committed to helping those who have been taken advantage of by big pharmaceutical companies find the legal advocate that best matches their needs. Don’t try to do this on your own — begin on the path toward justice today with White Heart Legal.

Use of Tepezza® Has Been Linked to Hearing Problems

Despite having all of the evidence, Horizon Therapeutics neglected to warn patients and doctors about the dangers of taking Tepezza®. If you or someone you care about suffered due to this defective product, we are here to connect you with the compassionate, qualified legal defense you deserve.

Signs You’ve Suffered Damage to the Ear After Taking Tepezza®

Deafness of any degree can be disabling, resulting in a diminished ability to participate fully in daily life. Activities that could be negatively impacted by sudden hearing loss may include participating in conversations, fulfilling job-related duties, and driving safely. Even one’s free time can be affected as hobbies like playing instruments, attending concerts, or going to the movies typically require some level of auditory functioning.

While there are a variety of non-otologic side effects from taking Tepezza®, hearing disorders associated with the medication thus far include the following:

  • Impaired or muffled hearing
  • Total loss of hearing
  • Tinnitus, otherwise known as ringing in the ears
  • Increased sensitivity to sound
  • Sensations of full or plugged ears
  • Vertigo, experienced as feelings of dizziness, imbalance, or spinning when not in motion

While many of these symptoms are temporary, there are rare cases in which individuals have not been able to fully regain their ability to hear. If you or someone you know has been given Tepezza® for TED, please be aware of these symptoms and seek medical attention if they arise. The earlier your doctor is able to intervene, the greater your chances of lessening or reversing the side effects becomes.

Tepezza® Lawsuit FAQs

How Long Do I Have To File a Tepezza® Claim?

The length of time allowed to file a Tepezza® claim will depend on your state’s statute of limitations on product liability claims. Being aware of this legal deadline is of the utmost importance as waiting too long to file could mean losing the chance to recover damages.

As soon as you realize you’ve lost the ability to hear or are having hearing-related side effects after taking Tepezza®, reach out to us so that we can connect you with sound legal representation.

While we cannot provide medical advice or claim that there are cures or treatments out there, we can provide information based on the current research.

According to an article in the online journal, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, corticosteroids may be effective in managing some adverse events following Tepezza® infusions. Another article published by BMJ Case Reports discusses a case study of a patient who experienced hearing loss after receiving Tepezza®. The article notes that the patient was treated with high-dose glucocorticoids, which resulted in some improvement in hearing loss.

Neither of these studies provides a definitive answer as to the best course of treatment for Tepezza®-related hearing loss. Therefore, the recommendation for individuals who have symptoms of hearing loss after receiving Tepezza is to follow the advice of your healthcare provider closely and promptly before seeking legal assistance.

At White Heart Legal, we understand that the financial burden of hiring an attorney can be a concern for many individuals seeking representation, so we work exclusively with attorneys who operate on a contingency basis. This means there is no cost to get started, and you only pay if your attorney wins your case.

The duration of hearing loss from Tepezza® can vary depending on the individual case. While some instances of impaired hearing from the use of this pharmaceutical went away after a few days, weeks, or months, it is clear that these injuries may be permanent for some people.

After realizing that Tepezza® has affected your ability to hear properly, the first step is to speak with a healthcare provider for an accurate diagnosis. Your physician may refer you to a specialist, like an audiologist, who can better understand the severity of your injury and offer treatment options.

In addition to seeking medical treatment, we strongly recommend contacting us as soon as possible to get the representation you need. We can connect you with an attorney who will work on your behalf to hold the negligent parties accountable for your injury and help you recover some of what you’ve lost.
